Ron Paul Repeats Commitment to Overturning Roe v. Wade Abortion Ruling

Ron Paul Repeats Commitment to Overturning Roe v. Wade Abortion Ruling

by Steven Ertelt

August 8,
2007

Lawton, IA (LifeNews.com) -- Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul restated his commitment on Tuesday to overturning the landmark abortion decision that allowed virtually unlimited abortions. He said he would work to overturn the Supreme Court ruling if he is nominated as the Republican candidate for president and elected to the White House.

Paul said he was pro-life and would make reversing the decision a top priority.

He also said that more people should be exposed to what abortion does to an unborn child and women who have them.

“The country should see what is happening and when they see the violence of abortion and what it really means, maybe they too would change their attitude about abortion,” said Paul.

Paul, a Texas congressman, also said he would make sure that taxpayer funds are not used to pay for abortions and explained that his training as a gynecologist taught him that human life is valuable.

"Life is sacred. The most obscene thing government could do is to ... use your money to commit abortion," he said to loud applause.

"When you consider our careless attitude about the unborn ... why is it so strange to see how our society is abusive to children?" he added, according to a WCF Courier report.

Paul's strong stance in opposition to abortion is what led Paul Dorr of Ocheyedan to become his Iowa field coordinator. He told the Sioux City Journal newspaper that he trusts Paul, who frequently opposes federal involvement in any program, to get out of promoting abortion.

"We as a nation can't bury our heads and pretend we don't see anything." The issue is paramount, he said, since "if you don't have respect for life, you can't have a respect for liberty."

Paul is a nine-term Texas congressman and a medical doctor who is pro-life but his view of the role of the federal government has lowered his pro-life voting record during his tenure on Capitol Hill.

From 2005-2006, Paul had just a 56 percent pro-life voting record as he voted four times against a federal law protecting teenagers from being taken to other states for secret abortions in violation of the parental notification or consent laws of their home state. He doesn't think federal law should cover abortion issues.

Because he believes in limited government, he strongly opposes using taxpayer funds to pay for embryonic stem cell research -- but has also voted against public funding of adult stem cell research.

In previous years, Paul's had a 73 percent, 81 percent and 79 percent pro-life voting record going back to 1999, according to the National Right to Life Committee.

Paul was first elected to Congress in 1976 and then lost a Senate primary in 1984. He later ran for Congress in an adjacent seat in 1996 and won. He most recently won his re-election bid by a 60 to 40 percent margin.

Why, the Beloved Country?

Why, the Beloved Country?

South Africa has squandered its moral authority by embracing tyrants and despots.
By James Kirchick
July 29, 2007
In early may, just a month before the Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip, South African Minister of Intelligence Ronnie Kasrils paid a visit to Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas leader and erstwhile Palestinian Authority prime minister. Kasrils praised Hamas, which has been designated by the United States as a terrorist organization, and invited Haniyeh to visit South Africa. Several months earlier, Kasrils did similar PR work on behalf of Hezbollah, another U.S.-designated terrorist group.

South Africa's chumminess with these two well-known terror organizations may come as a shock to Americans, for whom South Africa probably conjures up fuzzy images of Nelson Mandela, Oprah Winfrey opening up a luxurious school for disadvantaged girls and the heroic triumph of democracy and justice over racism. But it shouldn't. It is part and parcel of a broader and troubling trend in South African foreign policy, one that cozies up to tyrants and is increasingly hostile to the West -- even at the cost of its self-proclaimed principles of human rights and political freedom.

So why haven't you heard more about it? Why has post-apartheid South Africa's easy relationship with dictatorships been downplayed by the media for years? That oversight seems to reflect a disinclination to report bad news about the African National Congress -- Mandela's party, which led the fight against apartheid -- and especially any news that might be perceived as tarnishing the popular and comforting narrative surrounding the country's triumphant emergence from apartheid.

Even as South Africa moves slowly into the anti-Western camp, few outsiders are willing to criticize the ANC, partly out of a misguided sense of solidarity and partly because the party cloaks itself in a shroud of moral absolutism that not so subtly implicates its critics as racists, Western stooges or apologists for apartheid. (To cite only one of many examples, in February, the ANC government attacked the British Broadcasting Corp. for supposedly alleging that "Africans are less than human, or, at least, genetically inferior" in a documentary about out-of-control crime in Johannesburg.)

But scurrilous accusations shouldn't be allowed to deter reasonable criticism. And just because the ANC's current leaders were once imprisoned by white racists does not render them immune from censure today.

The reality is that, among democratic countries, none has been more supportive of Iran's nuclear ambitions than South Africa. While the United States and its European allies fret over what to do about the nuclear program of this rogue, theocratic state, South Africa's ambassador to the United Nations, displaying remarkable credulity, declared last year: "We will defend the right of countries to have nuclear technology for peaceful uses. For instance, Iran." In March, after assuming a temporary two-year seat on the Security Council, South Africa attempted to gut a resolution sanctioning Iran for defying demands that it freeze uranium enrichment. (Although after the attempt failed, South Africa joined the rest of the council in passing a unanimous resolution.)

South Africa has also wasted its opportunity to stand as a clarion voice for human rights at the U.N. On the Security Council, it has regularly sided with Russia and China -- the two powerful, veto-wielding nations that are consistent obstacles to the defense of liberty. In its first substantive vote on the council, South Africa sided with those two states against a nonbinding resolution condemning the human rights abuses of the Myanmar military junta. Archbishop Desmond Tutu admitted that the vote was "a betrayal of our own noble past."

Last week, the South African ambassador to the U.N. warned that any talk of sanctions against Sudan for its actions in Darfur would be "totally unacceptable." How can the ANC, with a straight face, call sanctions against a genocidal regime totally unacceptable when it demanded complete and utter isolation of the white apartheid government in Pretoria?

Rounding out South Africa's disgraceful foreign policy is its stance toward Zimbabwe, where President Robert Mugabe is inflicting what some have referred to as a "silent genocide" against his own people through starvation and the manipulation of food aid. Instead of threatening sanctions or even lightly criticizing his regime, South Africa has kept Mugabe afloat through vast economic aid and, in 2005, strengthened an already dubious military alliance between the two governments. To the ANC, Mugabe is a hero who defeated white colonialism, and even though his reign is worse than the white government he overthrew, the ANC puts its stubborn principle of liberation camaraderie ahead of common humanity.

Why would the ANC, which came to power with such worldwide respect and goodwill, be willing to squander its moral authority so easily? A large part of the explanation rests with Mandela himself. Although he is regarded as perhaps the most inspirational figure in the world, the fact is that throughout his life, Mandela has praised an unseemly crew of dictators -- including Fidel Castro ("Long live Comrade Fidel Castro!" he said in 1991), Moammar Kadafi (whom he visited in 1997 in defiance of American objections) and Yasser Arafat ("a comrade in arms") -- for their support of the ANC while it was in exile. And he has remained quiet about Mugabe even though a strong rebuke might influence current African leaders to do the same, and Mandela's reticence is a stain on his otherwise illustrious legacy.

The roots of the ANC's willingness to overlook totalitarianism go back to its historic hostility toward the West, which solidified during the apartheid years, when it was the Soviet Union that supplied the ANC and the United States, Britain and Israel were unwilling to cut ties to the white government in Pretoria. Regardless of what happened many years ago, previous policies by the U.S. and other Western countries toward South Africa cannot possibly justify the ANC's current friendliness toward Hamas, Hezbollah, Mugabe, Khartoum and Tehran.

Yet the ANC refuses to change. Today, it still governs not by itself but as part of a "tripartite alliance" with the country's trade union coalition and the South African Communist Party. It's no surprise, then, that in a recent weekly letter from South African President Thabo Mbeki recounting an ANC delegation trip to Vietnam, he spoke, even all these years later, of "the U.S. war of aggression against the Vietnamese people" and lauded the communist dictatorship's "struggle for freedom and national independence." Mbeki and his ANC colleagues see South Africa as having inherited an "anti-imperialist" intellectual tradition heroically opposed to the Western democracies.

With the fall of apartheid, a window of opportunity emerged in which South Africa could have come to the fore as an unrivaled advocate for human rights around the world. Given its own struggle against injustice, the ANC is right to regard itself as having a special duty to stand with the innocent against authoritarianism, terrorism and privation. Regretfully, it appears that South Africa -- at least under the rule of the massively popular ANC -- has decided to cast its lot with the likes of Robert Mugabe, the mullahs in Iran and the terrorists of Hamas and Hezbollah.

Pre-emptive strike against Berlin?

Bible prophecy is rubbish.

And to some, precious stones are only rocks. Bible prophecy is priceless to those who cherish the truth, as its treasure trove has accurately foretold many things and announces plenty yet to come. Such brilliant prophecies serve as a witness and a warning. The wise take them to heart and act accordingly.

Not so. He warned Germany would dominate Europe and then conquer the world. Have you ever heard of the German-dominated EU? Germany is back with a vengeance! Just like Herbert W. Armstrong foretold.

These Are Our Leaders?

These Are Our Leaders?

Gary Cooperberg
August 7, 2007

Ever since the reestablishment of Jewish sovereignty in the Land of Israel began in 1948, the Arab nations have done all in their power to destroy it. It is a principle of Islam to maintain its sovereignty over all lands in the Middle East, and its eventual aim is for complete world dominance. Given the fact that most Arab leaders are religious Moslems, it is an act of futility to assume that they will willingly alter their religious beliefs even for "peace". One would hope that Israel would have leaders that would never make negotiations that would compromise Jewish principles. Unfortunately our leaders appear to have no principles and are prepared to rewrite the Torah to please our enemies. This is the crux of our problems and the reason why we will never see peace result from holding human ideology above that of our Creator.

Mr. Olmert may think that he is advancing the cause of peace by suggesting a willingness to give away Jewish Land to our enemies. He may think that he is taking bold new initiatives. The fact is that Israel has been trying to give away the miracle of 1967 ever since 1967. For forty years our leaders have been dreaming of making peace by undoing miracles. Yet every attempt to make peace by giving away parts of our homeland has resulted in further bloodshed and terror. The most successful attempt yet to part from our obligatory birthright, the evacuation of Gaza and turning it over to the PLO as a gesture to encourage our enemies to make peace with us only resulted in increasing the danger to the Jewish State by allowing the Arabs to build a powerful terror network there. To this day missiles are launched upon the Jewish State from this folly. And to this day not only are no plans being considered to undo the mistake, rather further mistakes are being planned for the future. It is like a gambler who has lost a fortune, borrowing money to go back to the roulette wheel in order to get rich.

It is uncanny how the one man who has most influenced all of our "peace" blunders is now occupying the seat of President of Israel and again engineering proposals to emasculate our country in a futile search for a peace that clearly will never result from such stupidity.

Jewish tradition tells us that the Messiah will come only when most people have given up hope for our survival. Looking at our situation from a political stance we clearly have reached a stage of hopelessness. Simple logic tells us that the days of Israel's existence are extremely limited. It is just a matter of time until either our enemies destroy us, or we do it for them.

Fortunately for us, this is the only country in the world where logic has no place. Bush and Olmert and Peres may have plans for us, but the Creator of the Universe has His own plans which were drawn up even before the world was created. Can one imagine that those plans can be altered... even by the President of the United States? When given the choice to decide between trusting our own eyes and ears or to accept the words of our Torah and prophets, most people seem to prefer their own eyes and ears. This is logical. But it is a mistake. Were logic to have ruled here the State of Israel never would have come into existence, much less to have continued to exist and thrive over the last nearly sixty years.

For all these years our leaders have been promulgating the nonsense, "Give Peace a Chance", which they interpreted as giving away our homeland to our enemies in the hope that peace would result. Time and time again experience proved that this concept was ridiculous. Yet they continue to follow the path of death and destruction. Olmert once said that he is tired of winning wars. Perhaps he would consider deliberately losing even one war for "peace". Can one imagine anyone being so stupid? Yet these are the leaders we have been blessed with.

People ask me about the upcoming elections in Israel. I have come to the conclusion that elections in this country cannot result in improvement of our leadership. On the contrary. When we participate in the farce that we dare call "democracy", we are giving our stamp of approval to those who have stolen the right of the people to choose their own leaders. It matters not who gets elected, we get the same trash after election day is over. Who ever elected Shimon Peres to lead our country? No one. Yet time after time there he is leading us down the path to self destruction. The day after election day we are told that we have exercised our democratic right, and now we must suffer the dictates of leaders who have no interest in the needs of the people whom they ostensibly are meant to serve.

What about Moshe Feiglin? Clearly he is a religious Jew who wants to make Israel the Jewish State it was always meant to be. The question goes back to "do we really have a democracy here?" I do not believe that Moshe Feiglin will achieve his dream to head Likud. The entire governmental system in this country is run by an elite clique which will spit out anyone who dares challenge it. When Rabbi Meir Kahane, z'tl, ran on his own ticket and was actually elected to the Knesset, the entire system worked together to find a way to prevent that mistake from ever happening again. After they made it illegal for him to run for office, just to make sure, they arranged to have him murdered as well. Feiglin is no Meir Kahane, nor is he a charismatic type that would seem to present a threat to the power brokers. None the less, he would do well to watch his back.

I have a friend who bought property from an Arab in a Jerusalem suburb. The problem was that other Arabs were squatting on his property. He went to court to have the squatters removed and to gain access to his property. The squatters were not even Israeli citizens, rather thieves from Bethlehem. It took my friend nearly fifteen years to finally get the court to recognize that the property was, indeed, his and that the Arabs clearly were thieves and liars. He got a court order to remove the Arabs, yet the police refused to honor it! They suggested that he hire a private force to execute the order! When he found people to help him gain access to his own property, the police interfered and wouldn't permit him to do so! It seems that the poor thieving squatters somehow had enough money to find good lawyers to continue to hold up the proceedings.

Today, in Hebron, after only months of living on Jewish property to which no Arab even claimed ownership, the government of Israel found the funding to deploy three thousand troops to forcibly remove two Jewish families from their homes, owing to a whim of the attorney general. When it comes to evacuating Jews from their homes our government has no problems. But when Arab thieves clearly stole property from a Jew, which was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt in even the leftist Israeli court system after fifteen years of being given the run-around, suddenly our armed forces don't have the man power to evict the thieves!

This country is not a democracy. It is run by fools and exists in spite of them and only by miracles. Anyone who does not believe in G-d and Jewish destiny and continues to live here is clearly irrational. I live here with my children and grandchildren because I know that the G-d of Israel will never turn back the clock. His plan has already begun and it will not be stopped by any power on Earth. It makes no difference who is "elected" as our next Prime Minister. The only One who determines our destiny is the Living G-d of Israel. Recent history has proven this to anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear. So rather than fall prey to hopelessness as so many are doing today, let us proudly rejoice in the fact that the Jewish People has begun to return home, and will continue to do so until we are all once again united in service to our Creator.
