A Certain Contradiction (German-foreign-policy.com)

Newsletter 2007/10/08 - A Certain Contradiction
PRETORIA/BERLIN (Own report) - The German government is using the 2010 soccer World Cup in South Africa, to strengthen its influence over the South African police and military. During her stay in Pretoria last weekend, the German Chancellor acknowledged that not only German firms are hoping to profit from the billions in investments for this major event. German police have already begun instructing South African security forces for this huge sports spectacle. The Air Force is also involved, sharing with South African officers their "experience" from the 2006 soccer world championships in Germany. At the time, the German defense minister initiated preparations for fighter planes of the German Air Force (Bundeswehr) to illegally shoot down hijacked passenger liners. The exertion of influence on the police and military is part of a long term effort to set up Pretoria as a stabilizing factor for western interests in Africa - if necessary also militarily. This is why, Germany and the EU have been delivering military equipment to South Africa for years, causing the South African disarmament efforts of the 1990s to end in failure.

Destination: The Future Hamburg’s BallinStadt

From 1850 to 1934, five million Europeans abandoned their countries, leaving through Hamburg’s port. The majority of them went to the United States. Free Yigal Amir, imprison Shimon Peres?

A poll published by Maariv, Israel's second largest daily, this week shows that 26% of the Israeli public supports allowing Yigal Amir, who was convicted of the 1995 murder of Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin, to leave prison in 2015.

Even more striking is the finding that 14% of Israelis - and 38% of the religious public - believe that Amir should be immediately pardoned...

Questions Remain; 28% of Israelis Say Amir Didn't Kill Rabin

Are all Christians Conscientious Objectors?

Are all Christians Conscientious Objectors?

The other night I watched
PBS: The Good War and Those Who Refused To Fight It about conscientious objectors during WWII. It reminded me of how I used to basically believe the same way, even making sure I had several registered letters to document my (unofficial) CO status when it looked like the US might go to war with Nicaragua years ago, due to what Herbert W. Armstrong taught in his Military Service and War booklet.

Later, due to wondering about the Quaker influence upon Mr. Armstrong and unresolved questions or apparent contradictions about this important Christian subject, I did a prayerful Bible study on it and wrote it up to share my different conclusions.

Former Mexican President Vicente Fox confirmed the existence of a government plan to create the amero as a new regional currency to replace the U.S. dollar, the Canadian dollar and the Mexican peso, in an interview last night on CNN's "Larry King Live."

It possibly was the first time a leader of Mexico, Canada or the U.S. openly confirmed a plan to create a regional currency. Fox explained the current regional trade agreement is intended to evolve into other previously hidden aspects of integration...

British MPs criticise Brussels' secret treaty drafting process - 09.10.2007 -
------------------------------------------------------------
British MPs have criticised the lack of public scrutiny during the drawing up of the new draft EU treaty and questioned certain key aspects of the document - including legal ambiguity on a citizens' rights charter and the role of national parliaments in EU law-making.

In a report published today (9 October), members of the European scrutiny committee in the House of Commons condemn the "essentially secret drafting process" led by Germany, which was chairing the EU at the time.
