Yes, Peter was the most outspoken, dominant and chief apostle under the Apostle Christ to Jews (Galatians 2:7-8). However, it's clear God worked through all the apostles doing miracles (not just Peter), and brethren supported the apostles (not just Peter), and it was the apostles' doctrine (not Peter's). Regardless, that was then, this is now.

There is no line of succession from Peter to Gerald. Peter also wasn't an egomaniac and false prophet like Gerald Flurry has revealed himself to be (who basically proclaims himself God in the Temple). Don't be so blind and gullible! We're to take all the scriptures on any given subject and see the Big Picture.

Ideally, the Church of God groups would work together and respect each others' ministry, as Paul and Peter did (and in that holy spirit I've shared articles from the PCG, the LCG and UCG all over the Internet even though shamefully none of them has even so much as given an honorable mention to Beyond Babylon: Europe's Rise and Fall), and I'm on record for initially supporting Gerald Flurry as the leader in these last days of civilization as we know it:

I no longer support Gerald Flurry because he has clearly become worse than Diotrephes!

I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not accept what we say. For this reason, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words; and not satisfied with this, he himself does not receive the brethren, either, and he forbids those who desire to do so and puts them out of the church. Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The one who does good is of God; the one who does evil has not seen God. (3 John 1:9-11)

It appears Satan was feeding Diotrephes' ego (Diotrephes means "fed by Jupiter"). Diotrephes demanded brethren follow him and him alone. John wrote of Diotrephes' rejection of "we" and "us" - he didn't write about his rejection of Peter. John didn't agree that they should just blindly follow "God's man" or whatever Diotrephes had set himself up as, but to imitate what is good. Diotrephes was clearly evil. Gerald Flurry is evil for magnifying himself (2 Corinthians 4:5).

Today, as prophesied, the brethren are scattered in different groups and organizations. Even as the early Church of God headquarters in Jerusalem was history just before their Great Tribulation, the destruction of the Temple and dispersion of the Jews, the Judean Church of God members fleeing to Pella (while the Church of God congregations continued to function in Asia Minor as the apostles carried on their God-given missions to the scattered tribes of Israel), the organized Work of God under Herbert W. Armstrong (that was centered in Pasadena, California) is history.

Gerald Flurry had a God-given opportunity to serve the brethren and has failed, even though God has given him some victories like he did for Ahab for His Overall Purpose and can work though anybody or anything (Philippians 1:15) - including a pagan Gentile sorcerer and a High Priest and can even raise up rocks to do His Work if He chooses to.

Remember salvation is not a group affair, contrary to those who brainwash some to believe such a doctrine of demons. We're to maintain a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ: work out your own salvation with fearfulness and trembling. We're to obey God rather than men who often set themselves up as God! Yet too many are still looking to men or organizations to save them:

12 Now I say this, that each of you says, “I am of Paul,” or “I am of Apollos,” or “I am of Cephas,” or “I am of Christ.” 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

Even as the apostles informed the Gentiles if they followed certain basic requirements, they did well, so too today, regardless of which group or organization (if any) they're associated with, the brethren do well to remember the Sabbath and holy days, dietary laws, and basic doctrines.

We await the appearance of the Two Witnesses who will restore, by their presence, the Church of God headquarters to Jerusalem.

Nazi Muslims have a historical tendency to engage in such deception, infamous for their proclivity to lie, especially upon the Temple Mount in Jerusalem - Judaism's holiest site (which you wouldn't know since Jews and Israelis have woefully neglected the Temple Mount, enabling the Islamization of it, although thankfully that's beginning to change).

I was unjustly deported from Israel for highlighting the plight of the Temple Mount suffering under Arab occupation in an article published in Jerusalem and read throughout Israel and now the world. An new media initiative assembled by a group of citizen-journalists is reporting that Rep. Nathan Deal, R-Ga., has written to President Obama asking him to prove his eligibility to hold the office of U.S. president.

According to the Post and Email, "This forever changes the public discourse."

"What does this mean?" the site asks. "This is probably the first time in 233 years of American history that a sitting member of the House of Representatives has officially challenged the legitimacy of a sitting president … one full year into his term."

The website said Todd Smith, chief of staff for Deal, confirmed that Deal sent a letter "to Barack Hussein Obama requesting him to prove his eligibility for the office of president of the United States of America."

"The letter was sent electronically the first of December 2009 in .pdf format, and Mr. Smith said that Representative Deal has confirmation from Obama's staff that it has been received. The letter did not have additional signatories. It originated solely from Representative Deal," the report said.

Even if the putative president ignores the challenge, he cannot hide from it, because by doing so he admits his guilt through silence. The question has to be asked near and far, why would a president who has promised greater transparency than any previous administration pay upwards of $2,000,000 of taxpayer money to hide documents that could resolve the matter once and for all time for the cost of $20.00. He has publicly admitted on more than one occasion that his father was NOT an American citizen. This alone disqualifies him from eligibility based on Article 2, Section 1, Paragraph 5 of the Constitution, and consequently makes him a usurper," the site said.

Deal's office did not respond immediately to WND requests for comment.

Obama's original birth papers have yet to be made available for review, and there are critics who contended he wasn't actually born in Hawaii. Others say that doesn't make any difference, since with a father subject to British rule at the time of his birth, he was at best a dual citizen, and they contend the framers of the Constitution excluded dual citizens from being called a "natural born citizen."

That's one of the requirements specifically demanded of a candidate for U.S. president in the Constitution. That issue has been raised in a multitude of lawsuits since before Obama was elected, including some that remain pending at various levels of the judicial system.

Most judges, however, have concluded that U.S. citizens and political candidates simply have no right – or "standing" – to question whether Obama has met the requirements of the Constitution.

But the questions have been exacerbated by other information Obama has chosen not to release.

As WND has reported, other documentation not yet available includes Obama's kindergarten records, Punahou school records, Occidental College records, Columbia University records, Columbia thesis, Harvard Law School records, Harvard Law Review articles, scholarly articles from the University of Chicago, passport, medical records, files from his years as an Illinois state senator, his Illinois State Bar Association records, any baptism records and his adoption records.

Because of the dearth of information, WND founder Joseph Farah has launched a campaign to raise contributions to post billboards asking a simple question: "Where's the birth certificate?"

The campaign followed a petition that has collected a figure now approaching 500,000 signatures demanding proof of his eligibility, the availability of yard signs raising the question and the production of permanent, detachable magnetic bumper stickers asking the question.

The "certification of live birth" posted online and widely touted as "Obama's birth certificate" does not in any way prove he was born in Hawaii, since the same "short-form" document is easily obtainable for children not born in Hawaii. The true "long-form" birth certificate – which includes information such as the name of the birth hospital and attending physician – is the only document that can prove Obama was born in Hawaii, but to date he has not permitted its release for public or press scrutiny.

Tracking the rise of the European Union to global dominance—the final resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire! By Ron Fraser

As 2009 drew to a close, our editor in chief announced to the world that “In the next two months the Holy Roman Empire is going to be official in Europe!”

From its earliest beginnings, the Trumpet has watched and reported on this rising European imperial power, now in its guise as the European Union.

Why is that so? Why such a strong focus on the European Union?

Seizing a Lost Opportunity

The Trumpet looks upon Herbert Armstrong as its prime mentor. Mr. Armstrong published the Plain Truth magazine and was the voice of the World Tomorrow radio and television program, both serving international audiences numbering in the millions.

Europe’s unification was the key prophecy Mr. Armstrong highlighted over the years. So well known was he for this forecast that in 1989, when the Berlin Wall fell, a news station in Seattle called the Plain Truth’s headquarters to ask for a statement on the event—after all, Mr. Armstrong had been saying this would happen for over 40 years. Sadly, Mr. Armstrong had died a few years before, and those in his place offered only the weakest, vaguest statement of the significance of this prophetically electrifying event.

The Trumpet has seized that lost opportunity and, as resources have permitted, sought to provide an ongoing educational service in the public interest exposing the truth about the dramatic turn of world events introduced by the fall of the Berlin Wall. Thus we have worked to expose the true nature of the imperial power that is readying itself to burst onto the world scene, for a brief period in time, as a superpower of frightening strength!

After Germany’s reunification, we declared in the first year of the Trumpet’s publication, “The Holy Roman Empire is almost resurrected as Bible prophecy said it would be (see Revelation 13 and 17). Here is what Otto von Habsburg of the European Parliament recently had to say: ‘The [European] Community is living largely by the heritage of the Holy Roman Empire, though the great majority of the people who live by it don’t know by what heritage they live’” (December 1991).

In May of 1992, the Trumpet warned: “Recent political events happening within Germany and Europe should cause alarming concern for people within the United States, England and even the rest of the world. But most do not know the true meaning behind all of these events.

“A major political, economic and religious conglomerate of nations is poised ready to burst onto the world scene. Historically, this union of nations was known as the Holy Roman Empire.”

First the Balkans—Then the Rest!

Up to the Berlin Wall’s fall, the project to unite Europe—church and state—into what Otto von Habsburg described as a union reflecting the “heritage of the Holy Roman Empire” had stalled at the Iron Curtain separating Europe’s western democracies from the Communist states of the Soviet Union. European elites had long planned to fix that after what they saw as the inevitable reunification of Germany. When Germany reunited in 1990, it did not take long for that plan to emerge. It all began in the Balkan Peninsula.

Prophesying of the expansion of the final resurrection of this empire, the Prophet Daniel was inspired to write that it would wax “exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east and toward the pleasant land” (Daniel 8:9). Any Bible commentary will confirm that “the pleasant land” is the land of Israel.

Thus, for 20 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall, we have anticipated and reported on the southern and eastern expansion of the European Union. We have especially watched for a multi-nation EU “peacekeeping” force to eventually surround Jerusalem (Luke 21:20).

From 1991 we tracked German hegemony as it began expanding south and east.

In our September/October 1995 edition, our editor in chief reported, “In December 1991, some politically serious events began to take shape within Germany and Eastern Europe. Strongly opposed by the European Economic Community, the United States, and the United Nations, Germany recognized the ‘breakaway’ states of Croatia and Slovenia. The pope very quickly followed Germany by also recognizing these states. This was not by coincidence; the people of these two states are very loyal to the Roman Catholic Church. … There is something very dark and sinister stirring in Europe.” Gerald Flurry then prophesied, “What is now happening in Croatia is only a small sample of what is about to spread over the entire continent! This is the ‘straw that is going to stir the drink’ to unify all of Europe. It will not be long until Europe is reunited as the Holy Roman Empire.”

Four years later, as attention in the Balkan wars shifted to Kosovo, we forecast, “America (and almost the whole world) strongly opposed Germany’s plans in the beginning. But the U.S. weakened and then even decided to support Germany in their war to control the Balkans! Then the civil war spread into Bosnia-Herzegovina. The Serbs lost control of a large portion of this republic also. Now the Serbs see Germany supporting a guerrilla army of Albanians. … The only real winner in our war with Yugoslavia will be Germany. America and Britain will be the great losers. They will grow weaker as Germany grows in power” (May 1999).

In the same edition we commented, “This spring has been a monumental time for Germany. Not only has the Luftwaffe gone to war for the first time since World War ii [in the Balkan wars], but the official opening of the Reichstag in Berlin has brought a visionary parliament together in a building 66 years after a fire there ushered in Hitler’s dictatorship and the Third Reich. … [A] European empire is to revive one last time in Western and Central Europe. Germany will spearhead this revival. The Reichstag’s reopening is yet another indicator that ‘classic Europe,’ as historians call it, is not a thing of the past.”

Quickening Pace

Over the ensuing three years, we reported on the quickening pace of EU expansion, highlighting Europe’s right-wing swing and the increasing involvement of Europe—in particular Germany—in the Middle East peace process. We also warned of the impending financial crisis and the risk to America of an alliance between Germany and Russia. Meanwhile, Germany’s efforts to control the Balkan Peninsula—using nato, under the EU umbrella, as its proxy—were steadily bearing imperial fruit. We wrote in May 2001, “Events unfolding in Europe’s Balkan Peninsula are a major sign of how close Germany is to achieving its worldwide goals.”

In our March/April 2003 edition we followed up: “State by state, the country of Yugoslavia has been conquered. Even the name Yugoslavia is being discarded.

“Most of this conquering was accomplished with U.S. military power. But it is Germany and the European Union that are taking control of the former Yugoslavia.” This article spoke about the strategic value of the Balkan Peninsula, and how the German-led EU sought to gain control of it as part of a larger strategy to control the Mediterranean Sea.

By 2004, we witnessed—for the first time since Hitler had achieved the same goal by more aggressive means—the uniting of Eastern and Western Europe by treaty, when 10 ex-Soviet nations were accepted into the European Community. Two years later, Bulgaria and Romania joined, spreading Europe’s eastern leg clear on up to the Black Sea. The rising imperial European power now symbolically stood on its two legs, east and west, as prophesied in Daniel 2:33.

That which Herbert Armstrong had so consistently prophesied had become a current-day reality!

Shifting Policies

As 2005 rolled around, we warned of a political shift in Europe: “Germany is rapidly shifting to the right wing politically,” we wrote in January that year. Quoting Stratfor, we noted that Germany was “shifting toward policies ‘reminiscent of Hitler’s.’ Today, Germany is by far the greatest economic power in Europe. It leads the powerful 25-nation [now 27] European Union superpower, which is frequently challenging the U.S. A powerful right-wing Germany is far more dangerous to America than terrorism is. We just don’t know it yet.”

With the Balkans in the bag and a whole swag of ex-Soviet satellite nations firmly ensconced under the EU imperial umbrella, the following year we warned, “Watch for Europe to become more involved with Israel, especially Jerusalem. This rising Holy Roman Empire has already taken over the Balkans—and now it has its steely eyes set on Jerusalem!” (November/December 2006).

Earlier, encouraging our readers to watch events unfolding in Europe even more intently, our editor in chief wrote in our April 2006 edition, “Current events are starting a chain reaction that is going to stir Europe into actions that will shock this world. The iron strength at the core of an imperial European Union is growing. As it has done repeatedly in history, once again it is going to smash its way to global dominance! … Herbert W. Armstrong believed the same pattern would occur again in our time—that European nations would unite suddenly because of a crisis, and that the Roman Catholic Church would play a huge role in solving that emergency. In times of crisis, religion has a way of pulling people together!”

What would that crisis be? In 2006, a number of pundits began to vocalize their concern over America’s ballooning debt. Some predicted financial and economic disaster. These reports reminded us of a prophecy Mr. Armstrong had made concerning what exactly could trigger the unifying of the divisive nations of Europe and jolt into global dominance the prophesied great European power, the final resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire.

Just as we have consistently watched for and reported on the expansion of the EU southward and eastward on into the Middle East, we have also looked for the seeds of that crisis which would suddenly truly unite the fractious nations of Europe. In our April 2006 edition we had asked, “What emergency might unify Europe again? Mr. Armstrong believed that crisis would be the fall of the dollar. The dollar’s collapse could trigger a world financial crisis and make the European currency an attractive alternative for investors around the world. What other currency comes close? If the euro became the world’s new reserve currency, Europe would be flooded with money and would dominate world markets. Today the dollar is in real trouble.”

Euro Gains, Papal Politics and Crisis

Over the next year, we increased our scrutiny of America’s economy as the dollar continued to dip. “[T]he dollar’s status as a reserve currency is shaky. The euro is rapidly gaining on the dollar as a unit of global trade,” the April 2007 Trumpet said.

That year was the 50th anniversary of European union. In the same April edition, having the EU’s foundational treaty, the Treaty of Rome, in mind, we observed, “It may have been apparent to few at the time, but the signing of that treaty in that ancient city [Rome] on March 25, 1957, laid the groundwork for what is yet to become the singular most dominant force in geopolitics this century, the European Union. … The time will come when Europe will follow the rising fashion in Russia and Latin America, and the cry will go up for a populist leader. Such a man will come to office, not necessarily via the electoral process within the European Union, but rather by diplomacy—or flatteries (Daniel 11:21). He will lead the countries of Europe out of their divisions into great, though very temporary, imperial strength. Yes, that old Holy Roman Empire will rise again.”

The same year, we noted the demonstration of papal power in Italy when Pope Benedict forced the resignation of Prime Minister Prodi over the issue of state recognition of unwed and homosexual partnerships. We commented, “This is about more than just blocking laws that promote immorality. The Catholic Church is seeking to unite Europe under the power of religion—the Catholic religion, and Catholic laws. The Bible prophesies that this powerful entity will yet gain the power to enforce the policies—including Sunday worship—it now calls upon Europeans to uphold” (May 2007).

The subprime mortgage fiasco spilled over into major financial crisis a year later. We did not have to wait long to see Europe’s reaction to the crisis of autumn 2008! The EU proxy, the G-2o, met in haste on November 14-15 that year “to consider global financial and economic regulation. The EU plan is submitted to the leaders of these 20 leading nations. Commentator Dick Morris observes, ‘The results of the G-20 economic summit amount to nothing less than the seamless integration of the United States into the European economy. … Sovereignty is out the window. Without a vote, we are suddenly members of the European Union. … [M]erging with the Europeans is like a partnership with death’” (October 2009).

Mr. Armstrong’s prescience in declaring decades ago that a banking crisis in America “could suddenly result in triggering European nations to unite as a new world power” seemed startling as we observed the beginnings of its prophetic fulfillment (co-worker letter, July 22, 1984). Out of the global economic and financial chaos, we noted, “a beast arises, a regulatory authority ruled by a banking cabal significantly hailing from Rome, Berlin and Berne, with the innocuous name of the Financial Stability Board. Its work is done in secret, behind closed doors. The outcome is prophesied in your Bible in Revelation 13. Deeply involved in lobbying the central bankers of Europe are the powerful global merchants (Revelation 18)—many of whom head the very corporations, on both sides of the Atlantic, that aided Hitler in his drive for global power. Coincidence?” (October 2009).

As the push by the Teutonic EU for the power to control the global economy continued, Agence France-Presse published this startling item Nov. 19, 2009: “[O]bservers believe Germany could be saving itself to push for the top job at the ECB [European Central Bank]—arguably the most influential EU post, as the president governs monetary policy for all the countries that share the euro” (emphasis mine throughout). Within the G-20, it’s the powerful central bankers who call the tune and control the purse strings of the world. Hence Germany’s desire to seize the top job of the most powerful and influential of all central banks, the European Central Bank. “The ECB president is and will remain one of the most powerful European voices in global policymaking,” said Marco Annunziata, chief economist at Italian bank UniCredit. But Berlin will not be alone in competing for the ecb president’s job. The other strong contender is—guess who? Rome!

Whether Berlin or Rome is successful in seizing what has become the most prominent central banking post on the planet doesn’t matter in the whole equation of unfolding events involving centralized control over the global economy. Either way, one powerful entity wins: the rapidly emerging seventh and final resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire!

Watch … and Pray!

By the time the Berlin Wall fell, the European Community was already a trading bloc wielding significant economic power. Afterward, the European Community became a definite political force via the 1992 Maastricht Treaty, changing its name to the European Union. That treaty opened the way for members to unify on matters of defense, justice and home affairs and primed the drive toward monetary union.

For 20 years, we have watched and reported on the metamorphosis of the European Union from a free-trade bloc, into a united political entity, into a global financial and economic regulatory power—and on to its present status: an imperial power of rising global influence, under its own federal constitution, possessing its own diplomatic corps, subject to the oversight of its own president—the final resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire!

Of the greatest concern is that the recently ratified Lisbon Treaty/European constitution legitimizes the creation of a pan-European military force. Indications are that this will be largely enacted by combining existing EU military forces and assets with those of nato, a process favored by the EU’s strongest military power, Germany. It will include access to nuclear weapons.

Already European industry is gearing up to unify and consolidate its component parts to support this end. The time it would normally take for such a process could be drastically hastened by crisis. The rising tension being created by Islam’s push into Europe’s sphere of influence could mean the EU is but one terrorist attack away from such a crisis.

With the EU now significantly advanced toward fulfilling its goal of global dominance as a superpower, to use Herbert Armstrong’s words, “greater than either the U.S. or Russia,” what will the Trumpet be watching for in the immediate future? —Increasingly aggressive initiatives by the Vatican to enforce Rome’s religion as the ideological glue to unite the masses in Europe behind the imperialist motives of both Rome and Berlin (Revelation 13)

—The rising European sentiment against Islam to spark a cry from Rome calling for a “Christian” backlash, culminating in a whirlwind response to Iran and its lackeys (Daniel 11:40)

As 2010 dawns, it does so with the words of a startling announcement from our editor in chief reverberating: “The final resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire IS HERE!” That declaration ought to be a powerful stimulus to action to anybody who ever heard the voice of Herbert Armstrong prophesying for decades that these events would occur exactly as Bible prophecy declares they will. I agree with Mr. Graulich's sentiments, his rebuke of Jimmy Carter, and his rejection of a basically worthless apology, but repeating the lie that Jimmy Carter is a Christian is inexcusable. Only non-Christian Christians could accept him as one, and others who do are woefully ignorant of biblical Christianity. The Christian faith also doesn't demand "all Jews should and actually will forgive him." The Christian faith demands we overcome daily, that we express heartfelt repentance, in attitude and in actions, in words and in works, and whether or not folks choose to accept apologies from truly repentant folk is irrelevant. In God's eyes, they are forgiven.

As for the United States and Israel being the two "most moral nations in modernity," being merciful to a fault (must be in our blood - 1 Kings 20:31), often showing the "mercy of fools,"  I'm reminded of Meir Kahane's scathing condemnation of such a self-righteous "purity of arms" that we would do well to remember (Malachi 4:4).

I remember The Plain Truth magazine's frequent references to Carter and his unclean ilk as symptomatic of the national curse and malaise that was foretold, the breaking of the pride of our power - evident in both Israel and Judah today.

Chapter 13

“And Now What? The Prophecies for the Immediate Future”

The birthright, once we received it, was stupendous, awesome—unequalled among nations or empires! But what have our peoples done with that awesome blessing?

They were still Israelites, even though they themselves knew it not! They were still rebellious, “stiff-necked,” stubborn!

Once the British peoples and the Americans—the “lost” Israelites now supposing they are Gentiles—found themselves basking in the pleasant sunshine of such wealth and power, they were less willing than their ancient forefathers to yield to their God and His ways. They felt no need of Him, now! It seems few ever turn to God until they find themselves in desperate need or trouble.

But after God had withheld the birthright 2,520 years, and then, when our peoples deserved nothing from God, He suddenly bestowed on us national blessings unparalleled in history—the unconditional promise to Abraham was kept! No longer is God obligated by His promise to continue our undeserving peoples in world prestige, wealth and greatness. Once we had been given such unrivaled position, it was up to us whether we should keep it.

So now back to Leviticus 26. We had previously covered verses 1 through 18. God said that if, for all these previous punishments, the Israelites would not listen to and obey Him, He would punish them the duration of 2,520 years. Then what?

If, after that 2,520 years of withholding the birthright, our people—with the birthright—still rebel, God continues, verse 19: “And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass.” God has already begun that!

We Had Pride in Our Power!

God could not speak about breaking the pride of our national power until after that birthright power had been bestowed! He put our nations in the position of possessing the greatest national power any nation or empire ever possessed. We had great pride in that national power—in our national prestige.

I remember hearing President Theodore Roosevelt tell of his pride in that power—and how he used it when he was president. The Germans were sending a battleship steaming toward Manila Bay, threatening to take over the Philippines. The Philippines were then a United States possession. President Roosevelt sent the kaiser a terse note demanding that the German warship be immediately withdrawn.

“The kaiser didn’t know, then, that I meant it!” snapped Mr. Roosevelt. “So I sent another note. Only, I didn’t send this second note to the kaiser. I sent it to Admiral Dewey, in command of the United States Pacific fleet. It ordered the entire fleet to steam full speed toward the German battleship, and if it did not turn around and go back, to sink it!” said Mr. Roosevelt with emphatic force! In those days, before World War i, we had pride in our national power!

… But We Lost It!

Today even little nations dare to insult, trample on, or burn the United States flag—and the United States, still having power, does no more than issue a weak protest! What’s happened to the pride of our power?

We have already lost it! God said, “I will break the pride of your power!” And He did!

Other prophecies reveal we are to have soon such drought and famine that disease epidemics will follow, taking millions of lives. When our heaven is as iron, our earth as brass, we will realize rain does not come down from iron, and an earth hard as brass is not getting rain, not yielding food!

Verse 20: “And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.”

But will America and Britain heed? They never have!

Then what? After all that, then what?

Verse 21: “And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.”

There again, as in verse 18, is that Hebrew word shibah. Actually, in the Hebrew in which Moses wrote, there are not the two Hebrew words, one meaning “seven” and the other “times.” There is just the one word, shibah.

As explained previously, the word is defined as “seven times,” and also as “sevenfold.” The “seven times” conveys duration of punishment. The “sevenfold” meaning of the same word conveys intensity of punishment.

Now More Intense Punishment

Because of its use and construction in the sentence, and because of what actually happened, it is certain that in verse 18 this Hebrew word shibah refers to duration of punishment—seven prophetic times, which, during this punishment, was an actual 2,520 years!

But also, because of the very different sentence structure and because there cannot now be another 2,520-year withholding of what has now been bestowed, it is just as certain that the shibah in verse 21 refers to a sevenfold intensity of punishment. Notice, the wording in verse 21 is entirely different from verse 18. This time it is not worded “seven times more for your sins,” but “seven times more plagues.” The expression “seven times” in verse 21 is descriptive of plagues to be brought on them.

So now, if 20th-century Ephraim and Manasseh—Britain and America—refuse to turn to God in obedience—refuse to live the way that causes, retains, and increases blessings, God will punish them in a manner far more intense—and even strip entirely from them this colossal, unprecedented national blessing—returning them to captivity and slavery—as continuing verses of this prophecy show.

Do you think so great a fall could not come to so great powers as Britain and America? Do you say, “It can’t happen here?” Do you think the great God who was able to give them such unprecedented world leadership and power and wealth is not able to take it away from them and throw them, like their ancient forefathers, back into slavery?

You need to open your eyes to the fact that Britain’s sun already has set! You need to wake up to the fact that the United States, even still possessing unmatched power, is afraid—fears—to use it, just as God said: “I will break the pride of your power”; that the United States has stopped winning wars—that America was unable, with all its vast power, to conquer little North Vietnam! The United States is fast riding to the greatest fall that ever befell any nation!

The handwriting is on the wall!

You need, now, to understand the remainder of this prophecy of Leviticus 26—and also of Deuteronomy 28—and the many other prophecies relating to them and events soon to violently affect your life!

You need to look at the prophecies of Jesus, of Jeremiah, of Isaiah, and others describing how much more intense is to be the punishment God is going to lay on the British and American people.

For many prophecies warn us of a certainty that it will be trouble such as never happened to any nation or people!

Knowing our identity—knowing how the British and American peoples are identified in the prophecies—you need now to become aware of what is said about us in Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Joel, Hosea, Amos, and the other prophecies—what Jesus foretold—as well as in these prophecies written by Moses!

And you need, also, to know why a just and loving God is going to punish His chosen people—people He chose for a glorious purpose they have refused to perform.

The very fact of punishment implies correction. We need to understand that correction is applied to correct wrong ways harmful to us—to turn us around into right ways that will cause desired blessings! Understand! God punishes every son He loves (Hebrews 12:6).

Understand also human nature! Human nature wants to be good—to consider itself and be considered good, while it wants only to do evil. It wants the good result. But it wants to receive the good while it sows the evil. It somehow fails to grasp the truth that as we sow, so also shall we reap! It’s all a matter of cause and effect!

God’s punishment only reflects God’s love—turning us from causing evil results to the way that brings happy results! God is now about to stop us from bringing colossal evils on ourselves! God is not angry because we are harming Him—but because we are harming ourselves—whom God loves!

Punishment Is Correction

The prophecies do not stop with revealing the unprecedented multiplied intensity of punishment already beginning to descend upon America and Britain. The prophecies record also the result of that intensified punishment. The result will be a corrected people. The result will be an eye-opening realization of what we have done to ourselves. The supreme punishment will teach us, at last, our lesson! The punishment will break our spirit of rebellion! It will lift us up from the cesspool of rottenness and evil into which we have sunk. It will teach us the way to glorious peace, prosperity, abundant well-being!

On beyond the frightful national calamities now descending upon us will come a blessing inconceivably greater than the national material birthright we have possessed.

We have to learn that material goods are not the source of happiness. I have often mentioned the many rich men I have known—men whose bank balances were full—but their lives were empty! Material prosperity is indeed desirable—but it is not the source of happiness.

After all, real happiness is a spiritual commodity! The birthright was only one of two major promises God made to Abraham. The scepter promise involved not only a dynasty of human kings. It need not have included them at all—had the Israelites retained and been obedient to God as their King. The scepter pointed primarily to Christ and spiritual salvation through Him.

Our peoples have basic lessons yet to learn. The true values are spiritual. Actually, God’s law is a spiritual law. It involves physical acts—but it is based on spiritual principles. And it requires God’s Holy Spirit dwelling in the mind to fulfill!

Punishment implies correction. Correction means a change of course. It means repentance—and repentance means turning around and going the other way!

Now, before I give you these sensational prophecies, understand why national punishment must come, and who needs the correction! Only those who are sowing evil need it—who are transgressing God’s right ways—God’s law! Those, and only those, who are bringing on themselves the evils that result from transgression.

And understand this: Although the nations as a whole are to be put through this unprecedented punishment, yet those individuals who yield to accept God’s correction without the punishment shall be protected from it! No one need suffer this intense tribulation!

Sevenfold More Plagues

Now notice again what is laid down in Leviticus 26.

After the national birthright had been withheld 2,520 years and then bestowed; after God gave our peoples that national power, and has now, because of our national rebellion against His laws, broken the pride of our power; after He shall have punished us with unprecedented drought and epidemics of disease in its wake, then if the British and Americans still continue in their evil ways—still refuse to repent and turn to their God—He warns: “… I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.” Read that in the Revised Standard Version: “… I will bring more plagues upon you, sevenfold as many as your sins” (verse 21).

What people do not seem to realize is that sin does bring upon the sinner the consequences of sin—the plagues of suffering. The Bible defines sin as the transgression of God’s law (1 John 3:4), and the law of God is a spiritual law (Romans 7:14).

Let’s understand this! I have said that money is not the source of happiness. Money can buy only material things or services. But there must be the spiritual content, as well as the physical, to happiness. Material things alone do not provide satisfying happiness. God’s law is a spiritual law. In other words, it is the way to peace, happiness, abundant well-being. Going that way is what God supplied to cause real happiness.

Conversely, then, can we not see that transgressing that way is to cause unhappiness, pain and suffering, emptiness, heartaches, fears and worries, frustrations? All these evils are caused by transgressing God’s law. The sinner is really plagued with these evils he brings on himself.

Now study again that 21st verse of Leviticus 26. Punishment is correction. To teach us the lesson we have failed to learn by experience, God is going to plague our peoples sevenfold more than our sins already have plagued us—sevenfold more punishment than we have brought on ourselves!

Or, as the Authorized Version says, “seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.” Sevenfold intensity of punishment—of correction!

Slavery Once Again

Notice now verses 23-25 (rsv): “And if by this discipline you are not turned to me, but walk contrary to me, then I also will walk contrary to you, and I myself will smite you sevenfold for your sins. And I will bring a sword upon you … and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.”

Slavery once again!

Get the real meaning of this! Our sins have brought punishment. This punishment we have brought on ourselves. If we still refuse to learn the lesson, and be corrected for our own good, God says, “I myself will smite you sevenfold.” We have brought the consequences of sin on ourselves—now God will Himself bring on us sevenfold more intense punishment—punishment that is correction!

Now read on to verses 27-33 (RSV): “And if in spite of this you will not hearken to me, but walk contrary to me, then I will walk contrary to you in fury [the seven last plagues—Revelation 15:1], and chastise you myself sevenfold for your sins. … And I will lay your cities waste …. And I will scatter you among the nations ….”

God is going to keep multiplying chastening—correction—upon our peoples until they do turn from their evil ways—until they turn to the ways that cause peace, happiness, prosperity, all the good things!

How unthinkable!—that our Maker shall have to force our peoples to be happy, to have peace, to be able to enjoy prosperity, to yield, to accept—our own choice—eternal life in abundant well-being and joy for all eternity!

How unbelievable!—that human nature, desiring these blessings, has insisted stubbornly in going the way that cuts them off and causes punishment—correction—and then refuses to be corrected until it is multiplied in intensity sevenfold! Yes, sevenfold—three successive times!

How great is our God—and what love for our peoples He expresses, in patiently tolerating and correcting us until we accept His boundless blessings!
